ALL SQUARE ON FUND RAISING DAY

 Pre Season Friendly

GREYFRIARS FC 2 PHOENIX TOP SPOT FC 2

When Greyfriars formerly Netherfield Seniors told me about their cub fund raising day, I said I would go along to represent the league, when Greyfriars were Seniors FC, they have always supported my charity blog and even did so when I saw them earlier in pre season. They have changed their name as they are now sponsored by their local pub. The opposition Phoenix Top Spot FC are new to Saturday football but have plied their trade in sunday football for some time now, it was also good to actually meet them face to face and I am sure they will be a credit to the NSL.

The day was all planned as we left home at 9am as we had to go the the local village fruit and veg shop and on our way so we could pull in for some breakfast, we got to Mapperley top where we entered a cafe and ordered 3 x breakfast at 10.12am, at 11.20am we was still waiting and the chef had popped out but was back and was told our breakfasts would be next, I asked for a refund and was told as we had paid by card, we couldnt have a refund, breakfast came and it wasnt that good, no good review on tripadvisor for them. With kick off at midday we headed for a ground, Id never been to and ended up at a squash court, but then directed over the road to the 3g pitch, the oposition only had 9 players but a couple turned up, so kick off was delayed by about 10 minutes, to 12.10pm. I was greeted by the Greyfriars folks who made a donation of £10 and met up with the Top Spot lads and their secretary who was playing in goal and long  time referee Brian Kilburn who is their chair. I than met up with Herbie & Sue are sponsors of the blog.

The game kicked off and went from end to end but no real chances being created with both defences being on top. After 41 minutes, it was the Friars who made the breakthrough when a mistake in midfield by the Spots, saw the ball played down the left wing snd played across for TOBY KING to tap home.

At half time, I went over to the other side of the pitch and bumped in to Jim Bethell and grandad, also one of the Greyfriars dad and grandad, so I sat down in my chair to relax and take photos.

Top Spot began the second half the better and pressed forward and on 63 minutes were level when KOSIA MAZKUM pounced on a loose ball to strike a low shot home.

Greyfriars then pushed forward and this left gaps at the back and in the 82nd minute, KOSIA MAZKUM  raced forward beating the defence and lobbing the Grey's keeper to put the Spotsin to the lead.

They always say dont make comments until after the game and in the 89th minute, I said to Brian Kilburn, your defence has won you this day..opps in the final seconds of the day, a defender bought down Toby King in the area, to which the referee pointed straight to the spot. Up stepped TOBY KING with the final kick of the game to slot the penalty home for a well deserved drawn pre season match.

After the match, Herbie approached me and a gentleman named Tom(Ginger) who has been watching the game from outside the cage passed on £5 to the charity blog, then back at the pub Phoenix Top Spot also donated £5 so with the 4 goals scored and £21 raised today, it now takes the running total for Childrens Bereavement Centre to a amazing £3,173.75p
