Lancashire County Cup: Round One
GALGATE FC 2 FRECKLETON FC 6
A trip up to just outside Lancaster saw a lovely set up at Galgate FC, plenty of parking, for train spotters, loads running behind the near goal to the changing room and a lovely little clubhouse.
The tie should have been played at Freckleton but due to cricket, the venue was switched, though in very heavuy rain, a good communication with the Frecks Twitter chap kept me up to speed. I must say the pitch was a credit to Galgate FC.
The tie kicked off with young referee James Graham being observed and to be fair, had a very good game in my opinion and it was the visitors who looked sharper in front of goal with the homesterts keeper being called in to acion several times, but Galgate did push forward, but in the 22nd minute CALUM ALEXANDER beat the offside trap and opened the scoring for Freckleton. I as then joined by the very joyful Freck local Mark Wootton who is a friend on facebook and though see each others comments and lives down the road from my daughter had never met, but arranged to today.
Afrer 26 minutes, CAIN BLOWS twisted inside the right side of the area before firing low to double his sides lead.
On 32 minutes, Galgate must have thought they had upset a black cat, as they went 3-0 dopwn, when a corner from the left found CALUM ALEXANDER at the back post who headed home..I had a feeling at this stage, this tie wasnt going to extra time and penalties. Just before half time JACK WILLIAMS finisahed off a neat move to make it 4-0
Half Time, it was cuppa time and Calum Alexaner popped his head in to see how Bradford City was doing as he is Graham Alexanders son, the Bradford City Manager and player at several football league clubs in his career.
The Second Half kicked off and the homesters was given a glance of hope when awarded a penalty, to which RYAN CUNNINGHAM safely planted away to reduce the arrears to 4-1. This seemed to give Galgate their best period of the game as they pressed forward, and in the 63rd minute OLIVER JORDAN reduced it to 4-2, was we going to witness a fightback?
Sadly we wasnt as in the 70th minute, CALUM ALEEEXANDER made sure of his hat trick and made it 5-2. The rain began to get heavier and I weas getting more soaked, even my phone wasnt tweeting, so by the 88th minute TAYLOR ROYALE rounded things off to make it 6-2.
A good cup tie which the reftried his best to let the game flow and at times it was end to end stuff, but the visitors did deserve their place in to the next round. So any hoppers looking for a nice club to visit, both these clubs are very welcoming and a credit to the West Lamncs League.
