 THE AROUNDTHEGROUNDS CHARITY BLOGS LAST ANNUAL DAY ENDS IN A HIGH

5 years ago, I never thought of setting up a yearly charity match but Roberto from AC Wollaton approached me and the idea was born.The Charity Blog is in it's 16th season, making it the longest Charity Non League Blog in tthe UK and read by 1000's over the season.

It aims is to get more people to come and look at the Non League game in the Nottinghamshire Senior League and do clubs in the league their first ever progreramme and badge, but most of all, its raise awarenss of small charities and raise as much as I can each season.

Saturdays games were arranged a year ago, with Jess Munroe kindly offering me Basford United FC's ground free of charge for the day, then it was a matter of getting 2 squads and 2 team,s to play the selection of Nottinghamshire Senior League players from all different clubs, the emails to different companies for raffle and tombola prizes.

This year Basford Reserves stepped up to the plate and said they would play us in the morning a Under 23's team, I didnt know unntil later on that they were the best youth team in England winning the National Youth Cup beating several football league teams, then I went along to a charity match and saw a newly formed team called Edwalton FC, a team where the majority of their players had lost babies.

Edwalton's cause hit me hard, as we buried a 5 day old grandson some years ago, so of course this was one team I said yes straight away to.

In January this year, I had a couple of health set backs and I knew thast this years event would have to be my last, but that doesnt mean I will be giving up the Charity Blog, it just means Ive got slow down alot and have more rest and less stress.

The prizes began to come in and the poster was kindly done by the programme Editor Jon Knight of Retford FC, people soon responded they were coming, but I was struggling to get players as they were on holiday or wanted a rest or was working, but the management team of Arnold Town FC, esp Ash Marshall who has been my sidekick as the manager all the years through, pulled in other Arnold Town managers from the newly formed Development Team that has just entered in to the Nottinghamshire Senior League Development Division, most of the players it would be their first ever game as a adult.

The crowd arrived 1 by one from as far as Isle of Wight to Kent to Manchester and even more north, east and west for a fun packed day.

Hickory's Smokehouse a local business arrived with a stall selling their world famous sauces that they put on their steaks, also giving out free popcorn and flags to the kids and hopefully putting their business on the map. HIckory's Smokehouse have supported us with a prize every year and it was really good for them to turn up on the day with their stall and actually meet them

The 1st match kicked off at 11am and at half time, I was quite pleassed as on the turnstitles Id only seen Basdford score once, so I said that wasnt a bad half with us only losing 1-0, then someone said, ermmm  its 5-0 Rob lol Well the game gave the lads a run out and Basford ran out 9-1 victors.

The Second Match was a much closer game with the over 23's from many clubs in the Nottinghamshire Senior League, Edwalton ran out winning the match 3-2 with their keeper being named as player of the match, but from all reports the game had everything in it, but I was so pleased to see some of the comments about the goal of the game on Twitter and through word of Mouth for Will Cox, Will like myself had a heart attack early last season and was at death door and we have stayed in touch, he has played in every charity match, but I didnt want to bother him this year as he hasnt played for Calverton, out the blue he rang me to ask if the charity match was on, as I guess he had this feeling of in future years of what if I could have played one more season well like all the other players from ther Nottingamshire Senior League, he paid his donation and was there with a smile on his face and a post he did on Facebook a few days before was coming down and support the event and it was a place he never thought he would be. When I got home, I realised he hadnt stayed for his medal but when I contacted him, his reply was well that goal was my medal.

After the Edwalton match, I gave them their share of the gate and their manager/organiser took over the mic to say how thee club was only formed last year and expressed his thanks to everyone.

So whats next you may ask, well on Saturday 16th August, Elston United FC moved to their new ground and I will be doing their 1st ever programme and badge, I will still be taking donations from clubs and players and people if they wish to do a bank transfer to keep the Blog going. Im thinking of doing a video with a round up of the Nottinghamshire Senior League results at about 5.30pm or on the way home from a match Ive attended and get them on to the Nottinghamshire Senior League Facebook page and Twittere page and also on here, maybe the odd interview as long as some people dont act daft or swear, we will have to see.

We havent counted up as yet but we think we have raised around £1,400 to add to the running total, as I did a quick count last night but it was late and I was tired and counted 2 different totals out by around 20 odd pounds, so going to recount it all to add to the running total in theee next few days when Ive been done to the bank.

CHARITY SUCCESS AT NOTTS SENOR LEAGUE CUP FINALS

 Eurosoccer Nottinghamshire Senior League Cup Finals @ Hucknall Town

Over the last two weeks, The Eurosoccer Nottinghamshire Senior League held its 4 League Cup Finals at Hucknall Town FC, it began last Saturday morning with the Development  League Cup where second played third, Attenborough FC v AFC Warriors in a very entertaining match ending in a 3-2 victory for Attenborough. In the afternoon, it was the turn of the Intermediate Cup Final where 2nd Division FC Pelican played Hucknall Town Reserves and for the first 20 minutes, looked the better side creating more chances in front of goal, but Hucknall settled down and once they scored they looked to control the game running out 4-1 winners.

On to day and the First game had everything in it, it was the turn of the Intermediate League Cup where newcomers to the League AFC Parabellum faced Collingham Reserves, the match flowed end to end with only seconds remaining in the game and the Paras 2-1 in front saw a Collingham corner which they failed to deal with andf a equaliser was smashed home, to send the final in to extra time, Parabellum had played most of the second half with 10 men. In to extra time and 2 goals in a matter of 4 minutes saw Collingham go in to a 4-2 lead, but Parabellum pressed forward and got back in the tie wie a goal. As the clock was ticking down, a final chance came for them and the Collingham keeper leaning back just managed to tip the ball over the crossbar to save his side going in to a penalty shoot out and lift the cup.

The main final was the Senior League Cup, where 3rd placed Aslockton & Orston who have had their best ever season in their history faced title winners FCV Grace Dieu, a team that had only been defeated twice all season and oddly it was only last wek in the leaague that Aslockton beat them 1-0.

The game started at a fast pace as the FCV players was playing the ball along the floor and soon found themselves 2-0 up. A half time talk by Martin Hallam must have shaken his Aslockton side up as they looked the better side in the second half and pulled a goal back. A few minuts later they always say there are turning points in a game and as the Aslockton attacker broke through on the left, his shot was stopped by the legs of the FCV Grace keeper before being cleared up field  for ma quick break and hooked in to the net to restore their two goal custon and complete the League and Cup double.

Over the 4 finals, Hazel raised £553.45p for the charity Blog in aid of Autism Awareness, also a donation has come in from Sheffield FC's Stephen Muff of £150 and today 81 year old Graham Moseley pictured above with me has been a regular of my blog each season also raising 25p mper goal and presented me with £50, which  taqkes the Charity Blogs running total to a AMAZING £1,204.03p. Me and Hazel would like all people that purchase Raffle Tickets and donate the odd pound here and there.

Well you would think football finishes here, but on SATURDAY 14th JUNE at Basford United FC we have our Charity Football Fun Day, with at 11am Basford Reserves entertaining a NSL Select Under 23's squad, then at 2pm a NSL Squad entertaining Edwalton FC. Admission is £4 and includes a free programme, we are asking children to come in Marvel or Disney outfits with a prize for the best chosen boy and girl.Hickorys are attending and giving to the children FREE popcorn and Flags and selling their most famous sodas and jars of special sauces, there will be hook a duck, a large raffle and large Tombola. The admission is being split 3 ways, to AUTISM AWARENESS, Basford are giving their share to a player/coach who is badly injured after a leg break in several places and Edwalton FC to FOOTPRINTS(A Baby Loss Charity). So the more that attend the more the charities will benefit, your support is always welcome.

COSSEY HEADS REDS PAST PHOENIX

 Eurosoccer Nottinghamshire Senior League: Division Three

PHOENIX ATHLETIC FC 1 RAVENSHEAD REDS FC 2

Looking through todays fixtures a few weeks ago, this fixture stood out as Phoenix Athetic are newcomers this season to the league and id not seen them or their opponents this season Ravenshead Reds. The game should have been at Gresham Playing fields, but the game became more appealing when I found that the game had been switched due to Easter Holidays to Trent Embankment Ground alomg side the River Trent. I also noticed local to me in Mansfield Stuart Ingleby was the match referee and earlier in the season Stuart had given me a lift to a match whilst Hazel was up north at her daughters in Preston, so I rang him to ask if he wanted to come with us.

We picked up Stuart and in no time we were along the side of the River Trent and could see the changing rooms, but no idea how to get to them round a one way system since I lived in the Meadows area some 30 plus years ago.

We arrived with ten minutes before kick off, but Id rung the home team ahead to say we were lost and they guided us in and both teams had their teamsheets ready for us.

The game began in beautiful sunshine and was going from end to end and I wondered how was Athletic 2nd from bottom of the Division as they matched the Reds who was in 5th.

I was then joined by Mark and his Daughter Lucy Farnell, who are hoppers from the Midlands and Lucy was close to a milestone in grounds and her dad was taking her soon to reach that milestone to Latvia next month.

On 28 minutes, the homesters took the lead through a penalty by SAMUEL MURRIN. the vistors began to press forward but the home defence and keeper held strong, until the final minute of the half , when a header that looked like it was goalbound was made certain of by CALLUM COSSEY to touch over the line to equal the scorers.

The Second Half kicked off and the side from North Notts looked the more brighter going forward and on the hour a long throw from the left found the head of CALLUM COSSEY unmarked at the back post to head his side in to a 2-1 lead.

Slightly after a home player was shown the yellow card and sent to the sin bin, but only took four steps before the referee called him back to produce a straight red for a comment made to the referee.

Phoenix pushed and had a few close chances and must have thought they had pulled level when a shot was cleared off the line.

For what you may call a dead rubber match, this was a very good game with both teams just wanting to get on and play football and it was good to see all players of both sides shake hands at the end of the match and completment each other and the match referee who I thought had a very good game.

With the 3 goals sc ored it now takes the Charity Blog total for AUTISM AWARENESS to £653.42p, if anyone would like to make a donation how ever small, the charity blogs details are:

COTGRAVE UP SECOND HALF PERFORMANCE

RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC FC 0 COTGRAVE FC 4

Not very often I get out nto a midweek match but with me not going to a match this Saturday, it gave me a excuse for Hazel to get me out tonight. The reason being Cotgrave FC had won Eurosoccer Team of the Month for March winning 6 out of 7 matches and I always enjoy going to Radcliffe Olympic FC.

On arrival which was very early due to no traffic or tractors on the road from Mansfield Woodhouse to Radcliffe, John Watt and manager Lewis were working away preping things for the match, so Hazel mucked in by getting the chairs out and also going round the pitch putting in the corner flags.

Id soon got both teamsheets and then Hazel did the Presentation photo of Cotgrave FC with the plaque.

The game kicked off and a gentleman from Doncaster sat next to me and we began to talk about groundhopping and some of our experiances as in the first half both teams just cancelled each other out, with no keeper really being troubled.

Hazel bought me a bovril out at half time and just before I could have a sip on 50 minutes, a cross from the right was met by the head of TOM SPENCER to make it 1-0 to the visitors. A quick gulp of the bovril and it was 2-0, as a cross shot from the left by TOM SPENCER nestled in to the back of the net.

Radcliffe didnt give up and with quite a few youngsters in the team played some neat football, but the experianced heads of Cotgrave was keeping them at bay.

The Groundhopper from Doncaster mwanted four goals to keep up his yearly average over the 200 plus games he had seen this season and he was happy when a third goal went in on 73 minutes, when SAMUAL DUNN sliced a shot in to make it 3-0.

We didnt have to wait very long for a furth when in the 78th minute, BEN UPTON scored from around 25 yards out to give the visitors a 4 goal lead. It could well have been five when a shot from the halfway line dripped just over the crossbar.

Just before the end, Radcliffe had a free kick just outside the box, which closely sailed over.

Cotgrave any other season would have won the championship as they are some 20 points clear of 3rd place, but they have pressed FCV Grace Dieu all the way this season for pole position.

After the match in the pub, I would like to thank Radcliffe Olympic for and John Watt for their £25 donation towards AUTISM AWARENESS CHARITY and with the 4 goals scored my £1 it now takes the total to £652.67p

When I choose the matches in advance you never know where the 2 clubs are going to be positioned in the League Table, this looked like it was going to close with the hosts in 3rd place, with the visitors sitting in 5th place, so I was expecting a tight match.

With doing clubs first ever programmes this season and badges, it has really put not only the clubs but also the Nottinghamshire Senior League on the map, with all games being a decent standard, with hoppers who I csnt thank enough travelling from all over the country and so many repeating coming to all the matches.

Today it was blazing hot with a bit of a blowing wind that it was blowing even my donation bucket along with programmes off the table, so we moved to the next table where it wasnt blowing so much.

Hoppers and players from both teams soon arrived and like I asked both teamsheets were with me for 2.15pm, so the hoppers could write them down or take photos of them.

Todays Referee was Phil Wort and he soon had the teamsheets.

The game kicked off and it was the Robins attacking the far end of the pitch and on 10 minutes a ball came in to the box and KLAUDIO MARQESHI to slot home his 16th goal of the season.The homesters continued to attack with shots going astray by both sides.

The Second Half begin and AC came more in to the game but again both sides had very little on chances to test the goalkeepers, until in the 79th minute, a ball played from the left wing found COURTNEY VALENTINE who headed in the equaliser in the 79th minute.

Both sides both went close and both will be disappointed with a point each but it was probably the right result.

Donations from this match through Programme Sales and other match, plus from both of todays clubs and the match referee Phil Wort round up over the 3 games a massive £365.40p, taking the running total to a really great sum of £626.67p. I cant thank clubs and referees and hoppers enough, a BIG THANKYOU TO YOU ALL
