PERCY STEPHENS CUP 2ND ROUND
MADRON FC 0 HOLMANS SC RESERVES 7
Not really sure what to expect this afternoon as I had picked out this cup tie, Madron FC was once known as the worse team in England when losing 55-0 and the last time I saw Holmans Reserves they lost 14-1, but since them days, Holmans Reserves are in St Piran Division 2 West, whilst newly formed Madron have returned in the division below and both teams have made reasonable starts to their seasons.
A lovely welcome from both clubs and the match referee and my flask of tea filled and both matchsheets, it was ttime to head to pitchside, in to a stormy gale wind.
Ho,kmans attacked from left to right and soon made their intentions clear and that was to use the wind ro their advantage and after just 2 minutes the visitors got on to the end of a corner from the left side and BEN SCOFIELD tucked the ball home.
Madron were forced in to 2 quick subs, as 2 players went down injuted and the visitors poured on the pressure, with the homesters keepedr keeping them at bay with save after save, but he had no chance when on 16 minutes a shot by JOEL SNAPE pocketed the ball in to the bottom corner of the net with his low shot from just outside the penalty area to double his sides lead.
Holmans kept pushinmg forward, with the homesters battling away, but the home keeper was the hero leading them in to a half break only two goals down.
On the half time break, there had been a incident in the first half, but it seem to boil over in the changing area and the referee had no choice but to show red to reduce Holmans down to ten players.
As they came out for the second half, the wind had alter to a swirling wind across the pitch and the visitors caught Madron napping as like the first half, they scored a third goal on the 2nd minute of the second half, when a corner from the left side was then headed home by ALISTAIR POLLOCK to make iit 3-0, but it didnt last long at 3-0 as Ho,mans broke away on 49 minutes to make it 4-0 through OLIVER HAWKEY.
Madron preswsed forward but just could not test the visiting keeper and things got worse for them as the keeper then bough down a player in the box and LOGAN HOTTON stepped up to smash the ball in to the net.
Madron then began to have their best period of the game and a dipping shot looked goalbound in to the bottom corner when the visiting keeper managed to get down low and push the ball past his post.
In the 66th minute, a lovely move down the right side by Holmans led to their sixth goal when ALISTAIR POLLOCK steered the ball in to the net.
Holmans then began to knock the ball around the Madron young team and play out the tie, but there was still time for them to add another goal in the 84th minute, when OLIVER HAWKEY added his second goal of the gamme and his sides seventh for them to progress in to the next round of the cup.
I felt the referee David Cartland had a very good match talking to payers and explaining his decisions.
