ST PIRAN LEAGUE: PREMIER DIVISION WEST
WENDRON UNITED 2NDS 0 - 3 PENRYN ATHLETIC
The last time we visitied was at a groundhop match and the hosts gooot us a table for us to sell old programmes oon for our chosen charity, that must have been getting on 8 plus years ago.
Our Son Shawn decided he didnt want to come away on holiday as he is building up his indepence skills and also has become a wrestling, also he wanted to stay home and look after the cat.
Tonigbht's visitors were Penryn who funny enough, some yeas ago on a ground hop gave me a load of shirts, which I put on the stall for charity.
i was greeted in the clubhouse by a friendly gentleman who told me Peter would be down the ground later, I remember Peter from many years ago and itt would have been great to see him, but after the gentleman who cooked the food opened the door for me as Im on a mobility scooter and my wife was struggling, I got the teamsheets off this evenings referee who in my opinion had a good match, letting the game flow.
The game kicked off and the visitors were straight on the attack and after just 4 minutes, the home keeper was called in to action with a flying one handed save heading for the top right hand corner of the net.
Penryn carried on forcing the forward play and on 12 minutes, a low cross from left, caught a home defender off guard and hit the back of his boot and deflected in to the back of the net to make it 0-1. By half time, it could well easily 3 or 4 nil, as the keeper saved a couple of one on ones and also the visitors saw the ball crash against the inside of the post and bounce back out.
Half Time came and I parked up on the corner, as I was in the way of folks getting up and down for their half time drinks, on 47 minutes came the goal of the match, when a corner from the left side, was scrambled away by the home defence, only for CONNOR HURRELL to catch the ball on the volley from some 30 yards out to make it 0-2.
Things got worse for United when in the 59th minute, the referee reduced them to ten men after a collision between 2 men. From the resulting free kick, it was a double blow for the homesters, as the ball was pllayed to the wing, who drove it towards the six yard box, but before it got there, a home defender stuck his leg out and the ball en ded up in the back of his newt to make it 0-3.
Wendron battled with the ten men but their goalkeeper made save after save to keep it at 0-3, sadly at the other end, I cant recall the visiting keeper having to make a save, it was just one of th ose nights for Wendron and they will look to bounce back.
