HELSTON HIT A DOZEN

 ST PIRAN LEAGUE

HELSTON ATHLETIC RESERVES 12 PERRANPORTH AFC 0

With this the only local game to our holiday centre, I paid Helston a visit and it was also a chance to meet up with old friend Elliott Jolly who has since moved from St Erme FC to Perranporth.

Perranporth have been through a bit of a rough time of late, with their reserve team having to step up 8 divisions as most of their first team have left the club, but even still the majority of tonights crowd were from Perranporth to see f they could get their first point of the season, though their loyalist of fans warned me this would be a cricket score.

We arrived at the ground early in heavy rain but the pitch looked superb, as it began to drizzle I hopped over to the pay gate to pay my £2 admission, before heading to see another old friend, the owner of Blues Kitchen to order my sausage and chips, we know them from when they used to have the coffee shop some years go in Porthleven.

Just before kick of I headed to the seated stand and met a gentleman who was telling me about his grandson who had sadly been out the game for the past 5 weeks after a accident and left him with a broken wrist, but tonight he was a sub.

The rain had stopped just in time for kick off and I was soon joined by Shawn, my son who has autism, who decided he was going to commentary of the game.

With just 5 minutes on the clock, the Blues were 1-0 in front when WILL PAUL turn and placed the ball in to the corner of the net. 8 minutes in to the game and Helston had doubled their lead when FRED WILLIAMS converted a penalty, but worse was to come for the visitors after 10 minutes when a nice through ball from midfield found FRED WILLIAMS who coolly slotted past the goalkeeper to make it 3-0. It was scary and it looked like this could be any score, but credit to the visitors as they kept plugging away and trying to push forward, whilst the homesters attacked and missed some very good chances including one that bobbled just inside the box and the player smashed the ball that high over the crossbar, shawn said wow that ones hit the moon, to which a couple of girls laughed at.

On 38 minutes, it became 4-0, when a long ball found Fred Williams who squared the ball across for WADE BROWN to tap in his frst of the evening.

Half time came and Shawn went for me coffee and soon the players were back on the pitch for the Second Half, could the reds of Perranporth keep the scoreline down that was the question, with subs for both sides being made, well after 53 minutes, it was a home sub who made it 5-0 through WILL MACMEIKAN. 3 minutes later it was 6-0 when STEVE JENKIN headed home. Like buses the goals were coming one after another as after 58 minutes, it was 7-0 when a half clearence out of the visiting area fell 30 yards out for LEWIS HALL to power home a lovely shot in to the roof of the net.

Perranporth still didnt give up and had a couple of chances and I think if they had of scored, they would have got the loudest cheer of the night, even from the home supporters for their efforts, but on 68 minutes, a ball was played in from the left side and WILL PAUL squeezed in to the near post to slip the ball under the goalkeeper to make it 8-0 in the 68th minute. In the 73rd minute, WILL PAUL completed his hat trick when converting the second penalty of the match to make it 9-0.

On 82 minutes, a free kick on the right side found its way through to WILL MACMEIKAN who finished at the back post to make it double figures for the homesters.

In the 87th minute, came the goal that the sub ROSS DUNSTAN who had been out with a broken wrist and to the delight of the gentleman, Id been talking to before the game, slotted home his chance on his return to make it 11-0,well I though that would be the end of the scoring, but in the final minute, as the ref who I thought had a very good game had the whistle in his mouth,up popped up WILL MACMEIKAN again to complete his hat trick.

On the final whistle, Mr Dunstan kindly donated £2 for the Charity Blog which is in aid of the CHILDRENS BEREAVEMENT CENTRE, he has asked me to put it down on the donators list from ROSS DUNSTAN.
